Cathie Linz interviewing her new writer-self, Cat Devon.

Sleeping with the Entity by Cat DevonMiss RTL: For our launch week we thought it could be fun to invite an author with a library/librarian connection to be a guest blogger. Cathie Linz, former librarian and author of several librarian heroine romances, came to mind. What we received was two authors in one!

Read Cathie’s interview with new author, Cat Devon.

Cathie, or maybe Cat, will select a winner from the comments to receive a $20 Amazon or B&N gift card.

CATHIE: Why use a new name for your new series with St. Martin’s Press?

CAT: First off may I say that I am very excited to announce that I am indeed writing a new series with editor Jennifer Enderlin (Jennifer Crusie’s editor!) using a new pen name – Cat Devon.  I am using a new name because as Cat Devon I am writing a different subgenre of romance.  Cathie Linz writes contemporary romances but as my new self, Cat Devon, I write paranormal romances with heat and humor!

CATHIE: Why did you choose the name Cat Devon?

CAT: Cat is short for Cathie and I love cats, as any of my Facebook followers would know! <g>. I’ve even been called a cat whisperer.  Devon is my favorite county in England. It’s a beautiful place.

CATHIE: Where do you get your ideas for your books?

CAT: The same place you get yours, funnily enough, – from the idea closet under the stairs <g>.  Seriously, though, as a writer you start with What If.  What if my heroine was a cupcake maker starting her own shop?  And what if my hero was… a vampire?

CATHIE: Can you tell us a little more about your new books?

CAT:  The series features paranormal romances with heat and humor.  The covers are awesome! Here’s more about the first book SLEEPING WITH THE ENTITY (June 2013).

Meet Daniella Delaney. She’s all ready to open her shop, Heavenly Cupcakes, in one of Chicago’s sleepier districts. But she’s having a hard time convincing the local business association—namely Nick St. George—that she’s a good addition to the neighborhood. Daniella hopes that her famous red velvet cupcakes will be enough to melt any man’s heart. But Nick is no ordinary man. He’s got fangs.  Can this vampire have his cake and eat it too?

“Exactly the way I like my vampires and cupcakes – hot and fresh!” — Kerrelyn Sparks , New York Times bestselling author

CATHIE: Sounds great!  As a former librarian, I love writing books with librarian heroines.  Are there any librarians in the new books?  And what similarities are there between Cathie Linz books and Cat Devon books?

CAT: The heroine of the second book in the series THE ENTITY WITHIN (July 2013) is a former librarian.  My Cat Devon books have the same fast pace and sense of humor, same quirky secondary characters and sense of community.  And of course the same sexual tension and sexy love scenes.

CATHIE: How about a few True or False questions to end our interview?

CAT: Shoot!

CATHIE: Cat Devon is afraid of spiders, true or false?

CAT: True. Very true.

CATHIE: Cat Devon doesn’t like chocolate.

CAT: False. Very, very false!

CATHIE: Cat loves books by Cathie Linz, Susan Elizabeth Phillips, Jayne Castle and Molly Harper.

CAT: True. :-)

CATHIE: Okay, then that wraps up our interview.  Thank you for your time!

CAT: Watch for SLEEPING WITH THE ENTITY coming June 2013 and THE ENTITY WITHIN coming July 2013. Both books can be preordered now on Amazon and Barnes and Noble

You can visit my new website as Cat Devon at or join my Facebook page at or follow me on twitter @CatDevonAuthor.

Miss RTL: Before we go I have a question for you, Cathie. Will you ever share one of your cupcake, brownie or decadent slice recipes with us?! Or how about having one of your, or Cat’s, characters share one of their recipes instead? 😉

CATHIE: If you go to my website, there is a decadent recipe for Mocha Madness Cookies.

CAT: There will be several cupcake recipes coming early 2013 at so watch for those.

Hi, Cat! I’m looking forward to getting to see a different side of Cathie, but can I still look forward to the “old” side, too?
Also, are there cheesecakes in your new books or just cupcakes? 😉

Great interview! I love Cathie’s contemporary novels (I love that many of her heroines are librarians!), so I’m really looking forward to reading her new paranormal series! :)

  7. LJ says:

Does your hero have a special affinity for Red Velvet cupcakes?

  8. JoAn says:

I have read Cathie Linz books for several years now. Your librarian heroines were the draw for me (and I am not a librarian). I follow both of you on Facebook and was absolutely delighted when you announced Cat Devon. Chocolate, cats, contemporary romance and NOW paranormal romance. You do have the best combinations going for this fan.

  9. Linda Henderson says:

I enjoy all your Cathie Linz books so I know I’ll enjoy your Cat Devon ones too. I enjoy Molly Harper too

The book looks like fun. It makes it easier for your fans to know what type of book its going to be when you use a different name when writing a different genre. I look forward to reading it.
